Your Choice for Root Canal Therapy in SE Calgary

East Dental Care is pleased to offer patients Root Canal Therapy. Root canal therapy is one of the most common dental procedures out there. This treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for further dental intervention.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal treatment is needed to save a tooth from extraction when the pulp, or the soft inner tissue of a tooth, becomes infected or exposed. The most common reasons for a tooth pulp to become compromised is a crack or fracture in a tooth, a deep cavity, or an injury to a tooth. If left untreated, it can cause severe pain, leading to a dental abscess and possible tooth loss.

What are the Signs of a Possible Infected or Compromised Tooth?

  • Visible injury or swelling of the gum
  • Chewing or biting pressure to a tooth causes pain
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the source is removed
  • Darkening of the tooth
  • Tenderness in the gums around the tooth
  • Tooth pain that interrupts sleep
  • Spontaneous, throbbing tooth pain

How is a Root Canal Performed?

First, your dentist will remove the compromised nerve and pulp tissue. Afterwards, the inside of the tooth will be cleaned of bacteria. Finally, the root canals are then sealed and filled with a fine rubberlike material. Once the inside of the tooth has been treated, your tooth will be restored to give it a healthy overall appearance.

After your procedure, your teeth may still be a bit more sensitive and sore until the inflammation decreases. If you suffer continued pain, we ask that you call us at any time. Our team is here to help!
